A heavy start to our day in Berlin with the Holocaust Memorial. The memorial, with its concrete stelae, designed by Peter Eisenman is an abstract landscape that invites interaction and contemplation. The subterranean museum below is a moving and well-designed exhibit.
Next up was a walking tour of Berlin. The ‘express’ walking tour starts at the appropriately named Museum Island and covers the intriguing and diverse history of Berlin from Prussian Kings to the fall of the wall. We even saw the car park that was once Hitler’s bunker which is, apparently, a favourite place for locals to take their dogs to relieve themselves!
